Public Housing Opportunities

Denver Housing Authority Section 8 will be accepting applications for their next lottery on February 12th and 13th, 2009. Visit www.denverhousing.org/DHA/housing for more information.

Also, if you signed up for the waiting list last year – and did not get section 8 – You will need to apply again.  Waiting lists to not continue from year to year.

As of July 1, 2008, the Denver Housing Authority is accepting interest cards for their public housing family units. To apply you will need to pick up an interest card in the Occupancy Department of the Denver Housing Authority located at 777 Grant St. on the first floor, fill it out and then mail it back. Be sure to bring a picture ID.

After you mail it in, you will be added to the public housing waiting list which can vary in length from 6 months to one year.  If you are called, you are offered a place in one of their housing developments and rent will be set at 30% of your income.

While this waiting time may seem long, if you are searching for subsidized, stable housing, the important thing is to get on the waiting list. Here are links for more information:

Additionally, Adams County and Littleton are accepting applications to be added to their public housing waiting lists. Here are links to these programs for more information:

Jefferson County and Boulder County are not accepting applications for their subsidized family housing programs at this time.

If you are searching for subsidized housing, be sure to apply with these agencies as soon as you can because pubic housing waiting lists often close and do not re-open for a year or more.

Englewood Colorado Housing Authority

Englewood Housing Authority will be opening their section 8 waiting lists for two days this April.  You will need to apply in person April 2 or 3 from 8:30 until 4:00pm.  Be sure you know the social security numbers of every member in your household.  Here is their contact information:

Lakewood Housing Authority will be issuing Interest Cards for the Combined Waiting List on:

Tuesday, January 22, 2008  8:00 am to 4:00pm
Wednesday, January 23,2008 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

This is a great opportunity if you are looking for subsidized housing! This list only opens once or twice a year. 

Combined waiting list interest cards must be picked up at the City of Lakewood, Civic Center South, 480 South Allison Parkway, Lakewood, Colorado in the main lobby area on January 22 and January 23, 2008.  Once you have filled them out you will need to mail them back to Lakewood by Feb. 6, 2008.  Here is a link for more information:

Boulder County Section 8 is now accepting applications~ 

    The Boulder County Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher wait list is accepting applications from January 07, 2008 through January 31, 2008.

You can print out an application online, fill it out and mail it back by January 31, 2008.  Here is the link for more information and a direct link to their English application.
