***** Previous Opportunities****
(Note: Below are previous opportunities to apply for Section 8 vouchers. Typically the window of opportunity to apply for a section 8 voucher is very small. Also, after a year, most section 8 waiting lists are dumped and names are collected all over again. So, if you have applied in previous years, you will likely have to apply every year.)

Arvada Section 8 List Opens April 21 and 22, 2010:

PLEASE UPDATE
Dear Dawn,
We will update as soon as we hear about more opportunities for Section 8. The reality is, however, that Housing Authorities typically only open their waiting list for a few days each year – AND – the demand far exceeds the amount of housing available. Calling the process a LOTTERY – is very appropriate.
For example, I recently spoke with someone who works at Brighton’s Housing Authority. He told me that when they opened their waiting list – for a few days in the spring – 10% of Brighton’s population applied to be on the Section 8 list – and so far, they have only been able to help 20 families because no one leaves once they get a Section 8 voucher.
The real issue is that there is not enough affordable housing available for the people who need it.
