Volunteering

The Father Judy House relies on volunteers to be able to offer so many programs and services to the families that live at the shelter.  

Below is a list of updated volunteer opportunities.  However, if you have a specific talent not listed that you would like to share – please call (303) 866-7641 or email us (fejhvolunteers@ccdenver.org).  We also have a couple big projects available for large volunteer groups not listed.

Solidarity Volunteers - We are looking for a dedicated group of volunteers to come spend time with our families on a regular basis.  These volunteers would need to be flexible, compassionate and be prepared to sit and listen to the daily trials of single mothers who are working to move their families out of homelessness. Solidarity volunteers would likely fix afternoon snacks, make pancakes on Sunday, play with children, help with homework, or just sit and listen to how their day went at school.  They may also come in the evenings after the kids are in bed and help women prepare for the coming day, study for their GED, and listen as they share their stories.  If you are interested in this – please call for more details.

Bi-Lingual Interpreters - We are looking for people to help us work with families who only speak Spanish.  

Community Partners- A Community Partner will be partnered with a specific family who is moving out of FEJH and provide them another listening ear, especially during the stressful time of transitioning to a new place.  Community Partners will continue to check in with their alumni family through phone and in-person visits, and will help deliver donated items from FEJH to the family (diapers, food, furniture, household goods, etc). 

Move-Out Volunteers – We are looking to create a list of people who may be available to help our families move their belongings or donated furniture into their new home. 

Outdoor Children’s Activities- We have a group of children at Fr. Ed Judy House right now who have lots of energy to go around.  With the school year wrapping up, we are looking for some a volunteer (or a few!) to commit two afternoons a week to running around with our 8 to 12 year old boys.  Male role models who like soccer would be especially appreciated! 

 Adopt A Room  -  We are looking for groups of volunteers or families to “adopt” and decorate our individual family rooms to make them more warm and inviting for families as they move- in.  We have nine family rooms from which to choose. While our facility was recently painted, all of our rooms do need curtains, many need rugs, matching comforters would be lovely and we would be happy for other small additions such as fresh contact paper in our wardrobe drawers.

Evening of Pampering – We would love to host an evening of pampering at the shelter for our moms: hair, nails, massage, acoustic guitar music, etc.  This would be a wonderful opportunity for massage school students who need hours.
